Born in Hartford, Connecticut to a Sicilian-American family, Maria’s been creating art since before the age of 8 when she submitted her drawings and won a local art contest.  She started to paint and now creates dynamic mixed media works and lives in Orlando, Florida where she and her husband, artist Thomas Weil, frequently exhibit.

However, she started out her artistic journey not as a visual artist, but as an opera singer.  She was accepted at the highly prestigious Hartt College of Music and the Institute for Musical Arts after which she performed in the U.S., Europe and the Caribbean to critical acclaim.

But eventually, the calling to be a visual artist was too strong to deny.  Graduating as a Graphic Designer from the International Academy of Art & Design in Orlando, Florida, she has shown primarily at the Orlando Museum of Art where she’s participated in their ArtTech, Heavy Metal and Mozart exhibits to name a few.  She’s also exhibited at Orlando’s City Arts Factory, Alive After 5 and various art shows in and around the Orlando area.

Her artwork is a mixed media of sensuously idealized, close-ups of the kaleidoscope of the natural world around us.  A savvy, creative soul creating different, organic textures, depths and contrast.

Ms. Calvo-Weil is available for shows, exhibits and commissioned works.
